Advanced: Michael Glasgow

February 21-22, 2020

Michael J. Glasgow is originally from Michigan. He holds B.A. degrees in music theory/composition, and in journalism; as well as a Master of Church Music degree, with emphases in both choral and handbell music. In addition to his full-time position at North Raleigh UMC (Raleigh, NC), Michael serves as the Bass Section Leader for the North Carolina Master Chorale.  A passionate composer with an “abundant melodic gift” (New York Concert Review), Michael keeps busy with commissions and his own projects, and has been honored by several contest for organ, handbell and choral compositions. He is proud to have served as the inaugural conductor for the annual Anthornis advanced-ringing events in Minneapolis and Fargo, and to have conducted internationally in England, Canada, Hong Kong and Singapore. He made his Carnegie Hall debut conducting his “Requiem” in June 2017, and conducted the European premiere of the work in Vienna, Austria two years later. Intermediate: David Harris

February 28-29, 2020

David M. Harris is in his 31st season as the music director of The Raleigh Ringers, an internationally-recognized touring handbell ensemble based in Raleigh, NC. David was instrumental in the formation of this auditioned choir in 1990. The Raleigh Ringers are in constant demand as featured guest performers for various artist series and handbell festivals around the country.  David is a graduate of The Pennsylvania State University and has studied conducting privately with Dr. William A. Payn at Bucknell University.  He has served The Handbell Musicians of America in several capacities: as All-Star Conductor, Ringing Track Conductor and Instructor for the National Seminar; as clinician for numerous local and Area workshops and festivals; as North Carolina State Chairman; and as Area III Treasurer.  Because of his strong interest in the development of community handbell programs, David served as chairman for the first ever Handbell Musicians-sponsored event for community ringers entitled, “Pinnacle 2000”, held in Las Vegas. In addition, he has led handbell festivals and workshops in 35 states as well as in England, Puerto Rico, Canada and the Caribbean.
